History

The Wright Opera House was constructed in 1899 out of the bricks of a previous courthouse that had been struck by lightning after being condemned. Between its time operating as an opera house and now as Recycled Books, the structure also housed a saloon, the Majestic Theater, The Boston Store department store, and the Kibler Office Supply Store. Recycled Books moved in to the space in 1990, and the building was painted the purple we know and love today during the summer of 1998. Since Recycled Books' move into this historic location, there have been claims of paranormal activity. Some have experienced flying books and spooky sounds while others claim that this house is haunted by a ghost named Emma who wanders the floors of the store. Whether you're on your own tour of haunted places in Texas or you're just looking for a taste of history and some interesting reading, Recycled Books should be high on your list to visit.
