Juneteenth is a celebration that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, the Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war was over and that the enslaved were now free. Denton has celebrated Juneteenth annually since 1891. Previous celebrations may have occurred but were not recorded.

The festivities will span from June 14th to June 19th, with live performances on Friday, June 14th, Saturday, June 15th, and Wednesday, June 19th. Commemorate Juneteenth with music, dance, and cultural expressions. The featured artists represent a diverse array of genres and styles, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Parade
The parade features the following types of entries: cars, trucks, bands, floats, and individuals sponsored by participating individuals and community partnerships. For entry information, click here.

Parade Schedule: Saturday, June 15, 2024
7:30 AM - Line-up begins. All units must be present no later than 30 minutes before the parade begins.
10:30 AM - Parade begins at Denton Civic Center.
11:00 AM - First parade unit expected to reach the end of the route (Intersection of Wilson St. at Bradshaw St.)
11:35 AM - Last parade unit expected to reach the end of the parade route.
Noon - Closing Ceremony / Parade Awards to be presented at Collins Pavilion, Fred Moore Park.
