DENTON, TX, May 4, 2026 – Discover Denton is proud to join destinations across the country in celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), May 3–9, 2026, recognizing the travel industry’s vital role in powering local economies, supporting jobs, and strengthening communities.
Since its establishment in 1983, National Travel and Tourism Week has showcased how travel drives economic opportunity, fosters meaningful connections, and enhances quality of life in destinations nationwide. This year’s theme, “Postmarked: Essential,” highlights the lasting impact travel leaves in every corner of the country.
In Denton, tourism remains a major economic driver. In 2025, the travel industry generated $332 million in economic impact for the community and supported the livelihoods of 2,000 hardworking Dentonites. Visitors also generated $30 million in tax revenue, including $11.4 million in local taxes through travel-related purchases such as lodging, food and beverage, retail goods, and fuel.
“These numbers reflect the meaningful role tourism plays in our community,” said Kristi Criswell, Executive Director of Discover Denton.
Denton’s tourism industry supports local hotels, restaurants, retailers, attractions, and event venues, creating jobs and generating year-round revenue that benefits residents. National Travel and Tourism Week provides an opportunity to recognize the businesses, employees, and community partners whose work helps make Denton a welcoming destination for visitors from across Texas and beyond.
“National Travel and Tourism Week is an opportunity to celebrate the businesses, hospitality workers, and community partners who make Denton a welcoming and memorable destination,” said Criswell. “Their efforts help create experiences that keep visitors returning year after year.”
