Denton Main Street Association Proudly presents the 20th annual Arts & Autos in Downtown Denton on Saturday, September 14th, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. around the square and beyond, 110 W. Hickory Street. Approximately 10,000 attendees check out hot rods, classic and custom cars, trucks and even motorcycles! Around 75+ trophies are given out in car, truck and motorcycle classes. Plus, cash prizes for Best of Show winner in car, truck and motorcycle class.
Attendees enjoy an array of activities throughout the day, including a silent auction inside the courthouse, fine arts/crafts vendors, hands-on arts/crafts and games, Chalk Fest and live music.
This year the Chalk Fest will attract approximately 100+ artists who draw some fantastic chalk drawings to add spark and life to the sidewalks downtown. Artists of all ages can contributed to a awesome display.
With all the activities and entertainment, this is the ideal way to spend a day or a weekend in Denton. General admission to the event is FREE. Check back to this page for any changes. Entry deadlines and fees for entering a vehicle in the car show or entering the Chalk Fest competition are below.
Pre-registration for the Car Show ends Sept. 10th, but watch the Denton Main Street Association website for updates, as deadlines are subject to change based on availability.
All of the parking in downtown Denton is free with the exception of half of the parking lot closest to Wells Fargo, which is parking for vendors only. See map below.
The streets will be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. Please move your cars Friday night. Cars left inside the barricades will have to remain there due to insurance policy and public safety requirements. The streets/areas affected by closure on Sat., 9/14 between 5:30 am and 4:30 pm:
- Hickory from Cedar to Austin streets
- Locust from Walnut to Pecan streets
- Oak from Austin to Bolivar streets
- Elm from McKinney to Walnut streets
- Pecan from Locust to Cedar streets
- Cedar from Hickory to McKinney streets
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on West Oak Street (near Cedar and Elm Streets)
What is the Chalk Fest?
I Madonnari, Italian for street painting, is a tradition that dates back 400 years! An as we know a sidewalk is just a sidewalk until you have chalk in your hands, then a sidewalk becomes a canvas! Join us in Downtown Denton on September 14th for Chalk Fest, taking place during Arts & Autos, and watch the 200 Block of West Oak Street turn into a masterpiece. Cash prizes will be given to the winner in each of the 4 age categories!
- 18 years & up: Entry Fee is $15(includes t-shirt)
- Prizes: $200 1st place, $75 2nd place, $50 3rd place
- 12-17 years: Entry Fee is $5
- Prizes: $100 1st place, $60 2nd place, $30 3rd place
- 7-11 years: Entry Fee is $5
- Prizes: $30 1st place, $20 2nd place, $10 3rd place
- 6 years & under: Entry Fee is FREE
- Prizes: 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners get a free cone at Beth Marie’s, yum!

Drawings stay on sidewalk until the rain washes them away, so the public is encouraged to watch the artists during the contest and view the drawings for hours and days following. Please remember not to step on the drawings while they last on the sidewalks.
