THIN LINE: The Must-See Music Performances

Published on: Sun, Mar 17, 2019

Every April, people travel to Denton to relish in Thin Line Fest’s musical entertainment, competitive photography and documentary films. If it’s your first year attending, it can be overwhelming to narrow down which performances you’d like to see. That’s where I come.

So far, 18 bands are set to perform at this year’s festival. The musical genres range anywhere from hip hop to punk rock. Regardless of your musical taste, Thin Line has a little bit of something for everyone. Headlining this year’s festival are some of DFW’s most exceptional performers. In fact, some are even gaining nationwide recognition. Below are some of my top picks for must-see performances at the festival.

Claire Morales

If you’re familiar with Denton music, you may know Claire Morales. She’s an up-and-coming artist who has appeared in several music festivals in Texas, including SXSW, 35 Denton and Oaktopia. One of Denton’s youngest and brightest, Morales began her career in North Texas playing gigs at local coffee shops at age 13. Since her humble beginnings, she has released two albums.

The most impressive part about Morales is her sharp and powerful vocal presence. If her vocals weren’t enough to stun you, her catchy indie melodies and lyrical composition will. Fans of Florence + The Machine are in for a good time. Check out some of her head-bopping tunes on Spotify, then catch her show at Thin Line.

Claire Morales will perform Thursday, April 11 at 10 pm at Dan’s Silver Leaf.

Cure for Paranoia

Cure for Paranoia is an emerging hip-hop group based in Dallas. The band infuses electric and trippy sounding beats with airy vocals and quick-witted rap lines, creating a uniquely funky sound. If you aren’t familiar with their background, the band was awarded Dallas Observer’s Best New Act award in 2016, and later won the Best Group Act award in 2017. If you’d like to get a taste of Cure for Paranoia before their performance at Thin Line Fest, their Spotify is packed with their latest hits.

Cure for Paranoia will perform Saturday, April 13 at 10 pm at Harvest House.

Pearl Earl

Pearl Earl performs during the Discover Denton showcase at SXSW 2018.

Founded in 2014, Pearl Earl is an all-female indie band that combines classic rock elements with synth-pop sounds. If you’re looking for an 80s throwback with a modern indie twist, look no further than these ladies. Listen to their LP album and see what the hype is all about.

Pearl Earl will perform Friday, April 12 at 11 pm at Dan’s Silver Leaf.
