Mean Green Game Day not what you expected? We Heard You.

It has been five years since the Denton Convention & Visitor Bureau and Mean Green Athletics teamed up to bring the Mean Green Game Day experience to our community and visitors. With the continued success of the North Texas football team, we have seen the attendance numbers – and the number of people we carried on the Game Day Shuttles – rise steadily as more and more people become aware of the service. We can call that a success but with growth comes growing pains.

We’re excited that this season new partners joined our efforts to provide patrons with complimentary special event transportation service to all the 2018 North Texas football home games. This season UNT Transportation Services and the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) took on the task to provide the shuttle service as part of the Mean Green Game Day experience.

What happened last Saturday was unprecedented.

First, the game attendance was the largest in school history. It was a fantastic turnout, but with a slight hiccup in that the shuttles were full, and due to unannounced road closures, the buses were stuck in the game day traffic. We are saddened to hear that for many of you, it wasn’t the smooth ride you have come to expect. We apologize for the inconvenience this caused our riders.

In response to the service issues experienced this past Saturday, all the partners have been working together collaboratively to address these issues going forward. Everyone is working hard to provide you with the best game day experience and we hope that you will give our shuttle service another try.

Some changes that you will see going forward include:

  • A dedicated shuttle from the Lucky Lou’s Fry Street stop directly to Apogee Stadium and back
  • Extra bus support for the downtown Denton routes
  • DCTA personnel will be on hand at shuttle stops to provide extra assistance to fans
  • Additional bus support post-game for fans leaving Apogee Stadium

We strongly encourage everyone to take the shuttles with ample time to arrive to Apogee Stadium prior to kick-off. Be advised that the 2018 pick-up and drop-off location at the stadium is at the entrance to the Black Lot near the Alumni Pavilion on the Apogee side of I-35E. We appreciate everyone who took the time to share their experiences with us. It helps so much in crafting a better game day experience for everyone. Should you have any further feedback, DCTA’s GoRequest app is a perfect outlet for fans to comment on the bus operations. We are confident that this weekend’s MGGD experience will put us all back on the winning track. We hope that this will also give you, our community and visitors, the certainty that we are indeed listening!
