Memorable Experiences for You, Your Family, and Friends
- Visit the Square: Denton’s Downtown Square is the social, artistic, and cultural hub of Denton. Shops, restaurants, bars, event venues, and more line the streets and invite visitors to take part in the vibrant environment. Historic architecture has been preserved or restored, with most of the area holding a place on the National Register of Historic Places. Get lost in Recycled Books, Denton's very own 17,000 square foot independent bookstore, or get a sugar rush from Atomic Candy, a novelty candy shop that specializes in new and retro candy, specialty sodas, and gifts. If you need directions or just a little help, be sure to stop by the Discover Denton Visitor Center. Not only will you find friendly locals to help you get around, but it's also a great place to pick up some UNT swag for you and your family.
- Get competitive: Denton offers great places to test your skills and wit if you’re looking for some healthy competition. Give axe throwing a try at Ironwood Axe Throwing or The Horse’s Axe, go bowling and play arcade games at Andy B’s, take aim with a Nerf war on 10,000 square feet of space at The Battlefield, or simply grab a table, a coffee, and some board games at Armadillo Ale Works.
- Experience arts and culture: Denton hosts three collegiate campuses, the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, and North Central Texas College, and we’ve earned a reputation as a progressive-thinking, diverse, and culturally vibrant center in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Take your family on a cultural exploration through visual arts galleries, like the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, UNT CoLab, or Voertman's, catch a live music performance at one of our venues, or tour a historical site.
- Take a walk off campus: Just across UNT's campus, you'll find what is referred to as Fry Street. Most notably you'll find great coffee, food, vegan groceries, and a place to study at Aura Coffee. If you're craving some cruelty-free Mexican food, look no further than Pepitas Vegan Cocina, a completely vegan and vegetarian taqueria serving up tacos, taquitos, queso, and more. Another Denton staple just across Hickory Street is Oriental Garden, a contemporary Thai restaurant that has been around since 2003.
