Most people, when they start to develop an interest in music, do so because they had a family member play or because they were forced to pick a music track for school. But Mikey LaCroix, 29, started playing the guitar when he was grounded in the 7th grade. After self-teaching himself to play the guitar and piano by ear, Mikey has become fascinated with music production. He loves to take sounds he encounters from all walks of life and then layers them together to create music. “I just make whatever I’m feeling at the time,” Mikey said. “But these radio shows are a way to show people the music I love.”

Mikey has made quite the trek to get to DJ’ing at the Discover Denton Welcome Center. He has made stops on the road of life in California, Wyoming, Colorado, Vermont and Chicago. He studied history at UNT and taught eighth-grade history at Myers Middle School during the 2016 school year.

Catch Mikey three different times (with three vastly different shows) on DentonRadio.com.

Ellie edit

A self-proclaimed Jack-of-all-Trades, Ellie Meyer is not at all a stranger to fans of the Denton music scene. Not only does the UNT grad help out with audio and sound at venues around town, she also performs, both solo and with her band Autumn’s Amber.

For Meyer, 26, music was just a hobby that eventually transformed into a passion. She’s always loved songwriting, and has used her talents at playing guitar, ukulele and piano to enhance her career in music. Her show focuses on the backstory of why a songwriter write’s a song. “It’s really the story of how life is put into a song,” she said. “For songwriters, hearing a song is like reading their diary.”
