The month filled with witches, wizards, superheroes and goblins has a distinctive twist in our corner of the world. Whether your Halloween fancy is getting the pants scared off of you or just enjoying the fall atmosphere and the sights of children hopped up on too much candy, we’ve got the hook-up for your All Hallows Eve.

Gear up for Halloween with a free tour of the famed Bayless-Selby House: a Denton landmark mired in murderous mystery.

Trunk-or-Treat (October 27th)

Craving some candy AND a safe alternative to trick-or-treat? Never fear — trunk-or-treat is here. This annual free event takes place near the Denton County Historical Park. Kids and families can enjoy games like bowling, bean bag toss and football, while eating an amount of candy that’s sure to give Denton dentists nightmares.

Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival (October 27th)

Don’t let the moniker fool you–this fest is as family friendly as they come. Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival rejoices in all things fall, Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos–not to mention the always fun Cirque du Horror show, a musical that’ll leave audiences gasping and laughing. Dozens of vendors will be in attendance, offering their unique eats, arts and crafts. And lest we forget the coffin races: a spooky tradition that’s become a staple of the fest and Denton itself! Don’t be scared–$15 gets you general admission for all three shows.

Trick or Treating Around the Square (October 31)

In keeping with tradition, business across town will unite for one big Halloween celebration on the Downtown Square. From 5 to 7 p.m., families, friends, fiends and ghouls can show off their costumes while eating lots and lots of candy.

Ghosts of Denton tours

(Tickets are $15 and highly encouraged to be purchased well in advance)
Every Friday and Saturday, “Ghost Lady” Shelly Tuckers offers hour-and-a-half explorations of Denton and all its haunts. The price of admission is $15, and trust me: this haunted history is worth every penny.

The Parker House (Fridays – Saturdays in October)

Prefer getting your scare on? Check out this haunted house with a tremendous cast of characters, but beware, it is not for the faint of heart. It will open Sept. 28 and stay open through Nov. 3 with some select weekday showings.
