Denton Dates: Mix It Up As The Fall Begins

Published on: Fri, Sep 20, 2019

As the summer sun fades and the fall begins in earnest, you and your beau may be ready to go outside again (emphasis on “may”; I’ll still be checking my Weather app). Like bunk beds in the ‘08 classic film Step Brothers, the fall weather means more opportunity for activities. But as we cover in day one of my elusive and exclusive seminar Romance 101, variety is a key aspect of all romantic endeavors. You have to mix it up, plan some off-the-wall dates, and capitalize on all our amazing city has to offer.

With that in mind, here are just a few of the activities I recommend to kick off your fall:

Take your sweetie to a sporting event

Football and fall go hand in hand, and Mean Green fever has once again taken over the hearts and minds of Denton. As someone who once went on a date to a Mean Green game, I can vouch for the fun times you will have. The atmosphere is electric, there is entertainment aplenty, and, for our love birds beginning a new romance, a football game may just be the perfect date. Between the game and the festive scenery, you’ll have talking points aplenty, alleviating the need for the small talk that can cause so much anxiety. Plus, take ’em downtown for a drink or a bite, then hop on the free shuttle right to the game with Mean Green Game Day!

Get Musical

Not only is there live music aplenty every day, Geezerpalooza is on the horizon. Many events are fun and wallet-friendly ways to show your bae a few key things: 1. You’re cultured. 2. You can bust a move and 3. You’re not afraid to be a little self-deprecating when you try to “bust a move.” Also, October brings back Denton Main Street Association’s Twilight Tunes concerts on the lawn! The Denton music scene provides plenty of great tunes and opportunities to cut loose in our newfound friendly weather.

Or, Daresay, Exercise?

If you saw that header and went running in the opposite direction, I have two things to say to you: 1. Same and 2. That’s ironic. But I get it — I, too, am not the biggest fan of the “E” word. But I also believe there are few better ways to bond with your beloved than by working out and having fun at the same time — and yes, it’s possible. I recommend prepping for the upcoming Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally together, and signing up for the November outing as extra motivation. Don’t stress about it – there are routes as short as 8 miles or as long as 68 miles. It’s still early (the first registration price hike is next week on September 30), but as the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm. In this case, that bird is a turkey.
