Every June, 130+ tourism professionals from across the Southwest convene for one week of intensive tourism marketing and management courses during the Texas Travel Industry Association’s Travel & Tourism College (TTC). For the second year, Denton and Texas Woman’s University played host to TTC, this year during the week of June 17-20.
Travel & Tourism College offers courses designed to provide current and practical tourism marketing information and skills to anyone in the travel and tourism industry or related fields anywhere in the United States. The schedule is packed from start to finish with classes, discussion groups and networking events. Instructors are university professors and industry CEOs who bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the classroom. Hands-on learning components provide information that students can take home and put to use in their organizations immediately. Topics include marketing, advertising, industry trends, public relations, crisis management, economic impact metrics, travel packaging, branding, and much more.
Texas Travel Tourism College is a 3-year program, with returning students taking 2nd and 3rd year classes in consecutive years. At the end of the 3rd year, students are assigned a project to complete within six months in order to receive their Certified Tourism Executive certification.
While the students learn tons in their on-campus classes, the Denton CVB strategically plans how to take full advantage of these professionals’ downtime. Activities and games for the after-school hours are created to show off Denton while offering fun networking and wind-down time at the same time. In a word, we teach our peers what it means to “GoDentoning” by incorporating Denton’s eateries, music, and well-known entertainment district into fun, learning experiences. Students get a thoroughly original dose of Denton’s best while practicing the interactive power of social media audience engagement.
Feedback from TTC’s 2013 Dentoning has been fantastic. People love to play in our city! And it is incredibly satisfying to our CVB team when our peers tell us “they wish they had at home what they find in Denton.” What Denton has, who we are, is truly unique. It’s special and experiential. And it’s what will keep the TTC coming back to Denton year after year – and telling people about us all the time!
