For two months now, a promise has been hanging on my office wall.

It features a bunch of young men, wearing pads, with dates on it. I’m sure my co-workers have been sick of hearing about how excited I am for September 2. Because on September 2, the most dull time of year ends: that interminable time between the end of March Madness and now. For now, football season is upon us.

I love football season. It’s a promise of a new start, that this really might be the year! Saturdays are suddenly filled with getting together with friends, grilling out and rooting for your favorite team. And those traditions are alive and well to Denton, where we are gearing up for another year of Mean Green Game Day!

Whether you’re visiting from out of town, a Dentonite through-and-through or just wanting to take in a fun Saturday outing, Mean Green Game Day is for everyone! (Yes, even if you’re coming to root for the other team.) We have the Jagoe Public-sponsored shuttles booked, ready to transport fans from the DCTA Euline Brock Downtown Denton Transit Center through downtown, to Fry Street and right to the Apogee Stadium Pedestrian Bridge for tailgating. Best part of all? It’s free!

Has it been awhile since you’ve been to Denton? Have you never been to Denton? Then hop off the shuttle at any point, and look for our First State Bank-sponsored wayfinding signs to all the game day hotspots. When you hop on the shuttle, ask for a pocket guide. It maps the shuttle route and lists all of our Game Day Champion businesses.

The shuttles will make stops downtown, and at the Industrial Street and Fry Street entertainment districts. Hop on and hop off wherever you want to grab a bite or a beer, and then back on the bus and to Apogee for the game. Be ready for great service and lots of Mean Green Game Day cheer!

Looking for great food? We’ve got pizza (Mellow Mushroom), ice cream (Beth Marie’s), Mexican food (Agua Dulce) and Americana (Cartwright’s Ranch House, LSA Burger and Chestnut Tree Bistro) right off shuttle spots. Starting your game day early? Grab a coffee and breakfast at Hypnotic Donuts. There’s also barbecue (Rooster’s Roadhouse) and seafood (Hoochies) on the route as well. Wet your whistle at Lucky Lou’s, Cool Beans or Riprocks (on Fry Street) or at Bearded Monk, East Side and Oak St. Drafthouse near the Square to get the party started.

I’m ready for it. My co-workers are ready for it so they don’t have to hear me talk in hushed tones about what might be this season. It’s time to find out. Join us, won’t you?

The Mean Green Game Day shuttle will run from three hours prior to the game until an hour after the game’s end. See here for shuttle FAQs, which is subject to change. See the full Mean Green football schedule here.
