For many of us, New Year’s Eve every year brings the same tradition: invite friends and loved ones to whomever has the largest pad, order in food, everyone brings a bottle of their favorite libation and we watch the ball drop in Times Square (whether we be in the eastern time zone or not).

But maybe that has gotten stale. Or maybe, like me, you really just don’t like Ryan Seacrest or any of the musical acts they seem to convince to play on the final day of the year.

1931389_1245352859847_4742073_nFear not, Dentonites, because there are some options right here in Li’l d if you want to get out of the house for a great time and ring in 2017 in style.

Obviously, the premier choice is Lil’d NYE, a fundraiser with the Greater Denton Arts Council and United Way of Denton County. This event, which will be at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, will have a casino night (and your ticket in gives you a certain amount of funny money to gamble with!), David J. Pierce’s orchestra playing big band music (so wear your dancing shoes), cocktails and hors d’oevers from Barley & Board and great fun! There’s even hotel packages, including transportation to and from the event, courtesy of Best Western Premier.  Tickets start at $80. See all the details here.

For a more low-key evening, check out the party happening at Zera Coffee Company. For just a $2 fee at the door, you can enjoy live music, a chili cook-off and then a dance party until the ball drops!

ten-handsWant to go out on a more musical note? Head to Dan’s Silver Leaf for their New Year’s Eve party, featuring live tunes from Ten Hands! A later-starting event (this one kicks off at 10) gives everyone ample time to have dinner, go to one of our local watering holes for a few beverages and then finish up a #dentoning New Year’s Eve on Industrial Street.

Denton Parks & Rec is also offering a New Year’s Eve celebration for adults (17 and older) with special needs at the Denton Civic Center. This Adaptive Recreation Masquerade Party costs $15 at the door to get in and will have food, a DJ, photo booth, costume contest and other activities.

No matter where you decide to spend New Year’s Eve (even, yes, if it’s on your couch in your sweatpants), celebrate 2017 safely. We can’t wait to go #dentoning with you in the new year!
