We all remember the “Go to your room” and “Is your bed made?” from our mothers, but we also remember their selflessness when taking care of us and their words of wisdom, whether we wanted to accept them or not.

Mother’s Day is a day where you can be overtly appreciative of your mothers and take them out on a special date! Denton has lots to offer for the perfect day with your mom, whether she wants a mani/ pedi session, a scenic walk, or the perfect food and beer pairing. We have your back.

If your mom is the outdoor type, there are two Denton County locations with plenty of activities from which to choose. The Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center offers many acreages of bottomland hardwood forest, upland prairie, and diverse aquatic habitats. This park offers more than 10 miles of hiking trails and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Want to go fishing, swimming, or biking? The Ray Roberts Lake State Park offers that and then some. Take your mom out for a stroll and enjoy one-on-one time with nature. The Ray Roberts Lake State Park is also a great place to capture beautiful photographs of its inhabitants, such as deer, rabbits, and a vast variety of birds.

Chow down with Mom on a healthy dish from Andaman Thai!

After a nature-filled day, keep it healthy with exquisite dishes from The Bowllery, like the Denton Yogi Bowl or the Grilled Teriyaki Steak Ninja Bowl. Want a bite closer to the Square? Thai Square and Andaman both offer Thai dishes, most of which can be made gluten-free, vegan or vegetarian.

Got a beer connoisseur in the house? Denton happens to be the fountain of craft beers. With more than six bars and breweries specializing in craft beer, it can be hard to make a decision, so take your mom on a beer tour! Celebrate your mom a day early and let her learn how original and independent Audacity Brew House is by joining one of the FREE tours provided every Saturday at 3 p.m. It’s advised that you arrive at least 30 minutes early to sign up and to grab a brew.

Denton is rapidly growing, so show mom the freshest thing in town! Denton County Brewing Co. is a brew pub specializing in craft beer and ciders. This new brewery has an outdoor patio where one can soak up the sun or enjoy the sleek industrial look on the inside. Very important side note: you can snatch $3 mimosas every Sunday.

Want to continue the beer theme? Barley & Board, Denton’s first gastropub restaurant, offers an eclectic menu of small plates such as Bacon Wrapped Medjool Dates and a variety of large plates ranging from Hanger Steak to a Roasted Half Chicken. And let’s face it: since brews and exquisite food go hand-in-hand, Barley & Board has conveniently paired which beer best complements your choice of food. Whether your pick is salad, soup, flatbreads, handcrafted cocktails, wine or beer, Barley & Board has an exquisite selection to choose from before or after a day with Mom. Vegan and vegetarian dishes are available too.

The fun doesn’t stop there: you can sing, dance AND karaoke too! DFW Nail Bar uses certified organic products for manicures/pedicures, including gel polish, dipping powder, facials, body massages, foot reflexology, body scrub and waxing.

9 to 5 The Musical’ is currently in Denton! Based on the book by Patricia Resnick and accompanied with music and lyrics written by the mastermind of ‘Jolene’ Dolly Parton, ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ is a great Mother’s Day gift! Now at the historic Campus Theatre in downtown Denton, ‘9 to 5’ will be playing at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday, with senior and student discounts available.

Before the musical, visit the newly expanded Old West Café off South I-35! Open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, breakfast there is a must. There’s a reason everyone talks about Old West Café and their French toast and iron skillet plates may have something to do with it.
