No organization does special events quite like Music Theatre of Denton, and their celebration of The Addams Family cast is no exception.

BMood Lighting (COC)oard members of Music Theatre of Denton gathered with  a variety of theatre patrons for their MTD Happy Hour and Surprise Unveiling in Denton’s own Abbey Underground, a long-time supporter of MTD. For those of you who haven’t descended below ground-level of the square, let me paint a picture.

The entrance to Abbey Underground is in the back of The Abbey Inn. Walking to the back alley, you’re given a totally different view of this business, and one that I think sparks amazing intrigue. Upon entering through the doorway, patrons descend down an industrial stairway into a dimly lit foyer hauntingly embellished by metal bars surrounding a row of booths to sit at. Those bars are wound through with string lights, giving a glittering contrast to the darkness.

Continue walking back and you’ll find yourself by the bar, which I found lined with empty champagne glasses, black roses, and a delicious concoction appropriately called “Morticia’s Black Rose Cocktail”. I filled my glass with the gently sparkling red liquid, took a sip, and tasted a rich champagne cocktail with deep floral notes and a bite that I would expect to come from a drink named for one half of the most darkly romantic couple on screen, page, or stage.

The chatter was punctuated by the sounds of screams, moans, and inhuman hissing. The whole thing left me longing to step outside and find myself instantly in October. Sadly, MTDChamber Plaque Presentation (COC) is capable of many mind-blowing spectacles, but time travel does not seem to be one of them.

Not only was MTD celebrating their upcoming show, but also their new status as a Denton Chamber of Commerce member! The Abbey Underground’s stage was set for a ceremonial ribbon cutting, with two mysterious items draped with cloth and awash in blue light. The curiosity of the surprise unveiling was definitely holding my attention.

Finally, the MTD App Screenshotcurtains were whisked away and the announcement was made! MTD has once again set itself apart with a brand new app supported by Apple and GooglePlay. Everyone who downloads it will have access to ticket sales, ticket pushes just before curtain for empty seats, and getting involved as a volunteer. Never willing to sit still, they have even more coming up in their MTD Store like t-shirts and specialty show packages.

The Addams Family will be yet another addition to Denton’s vibrant Halloween celebrations. Don’t miss what promises to be an enchanting performance!

The Addams Family, directed by Bill Kirkley, runs October 23 - November 1, 2015, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm at the Campus Theatre located at 214 W Hickory St. For ticket sales information, please call the Campus Theatre box office at 940-382-1915.
