New Year, new goals, new travels. Good things start happening at the beginning of a new year, and one of my personal favorites is traveling to new places and experiencing all the local charm. Denton is full of local charm, and gets visitors from all around. Whether here for fun, for one of our many awesome events, work-related (keep your job, you got an amazing trip), or for college visits we welcome them all.

Keeping up your stamina throughout the day and into the night, on your Denton visit comes down to one thing, good coffee. Luckily Denton has loads of amazing, local, coffee shops everywhere you turn. If you’re in the Downtown area looking for somewhere to sit, relax, grab a good cup of coffee, here are some local favorites.

west oakWest Oak Coffee Bar is an amazing place on the Downtown Denton square. The shop itself has such a cozy, homey vibe. It is a great place to just sit, enjoy a coffee and a piece of pie, or grab some delicious food. It has a great covered patio in the front of the building, which is perfect for enjoying nice weather, or for people watching. (114 W Oak Street)

Jupiter House is right on the square and a for sure, real-deal Denton hangout. The building is very open, and has plenty of seating. The menu is extensive. Options include Italian soda, hot tea, smoothies, signature coffee, and specialty drinks, as well as pastries. Definitely a great place to spread out and do homework, or catch up on work. (106 N Locust Street)

Cultivar is attached to Hypnotic Donuts and shows that coffee fundamentals can be just as good as fancy espresso drinks. They don’t have a wide-variety of drinks, but what they have is amazing. Go one counter over and get some hauntingly delicious donuts and biscuits to accompany your essential coffee. (235 W Hickory Street)

Seven Mile Cafe, where the coffee beans are roasted in house, there are plenty of brewing methods for your black coffee, an extensive espresso menu and a variety of options apart from coffee. Their menu includes tea, milkshakes, fresh juices, smoothies, and delicious food. They have a large amount of healthy options, as well as vegan and vegetarian options. (529 Bolivar Street)

Shift Coffee is coffee, with no coffee machine. This place has a trendy vibe, and great coffee that is turned into art. The baristas take their time on their drinks, and are willing to help customers who aren’t sure what they want.  The time put into the drinks is used to measure temperatures, what type of coffee grind to use, and starting over when drinks turn out sub-par. (519 S Locust Street)

Zera Coffee Company is a really relaxed open store where you could meet a big group, or you could find your own corner and work diligently by yourself. They are reasonably priced, and the funds from the shop benefit Denton Freedom House, a local rehabilitation center. Their menu has coffee, Italian soda, and some food options. (420 E McKinney Street, #104)

If you’re hanging around UNT, check out Zera latte art - from facebookAura Coffee, located across the street from the UNT auditorium building, right next to Fry St. It’s a college kids dream: the perfect place to stop between classes, after a campus tour, or during late night study sessions. They have great quick service and an artsy, college-town, grunge feel. (1306 W Hickory Street)

Not only are all of these amazing coffee shops uniquely Denton, but they all have different personalities, vibes, and atmospheres. There is without a doubt a coffee shop for everyone, that is locally owned and gives you a caffeine fix.
