I can’t believe it either – but we’re officially in the final days of 2017. (Hey, we’re under 50 days, so it counts.) With all of the hustle and bustle (and stress and cleaning and coordinating holiday schedules), often we don’t start thinking about our New Year’s Eve plans until, oh, December 27.

It’s time to change that, Denton. Get your tickets today for the premier Denton party to ring in 2018: Lil’d NYE!

Lil’d NYE, which started last year, is a great night out for couples, a group of friends or even just you! Come prepared to have a good time at the casino tables (funny gambling money included with ticket), eat great food (more on that later) and just enjoy being out and about on this celebrated night!

Micah Pazoureck, Chairperson for Lil’d NYE and United Way of Denton County board member, said last year’s committee was “thrilled” with the turnout of the event.

“Going into something, you just never know how things will pan out. Guests enjoyed being at a fun local event with more to do than just going to dinner or a bar,” Micah said.

Not only is the event a blast, but it also benefits the United Way of Denton County’s initiatives and grants. It is also a partnership with the Greater Denton Arts Council.

“Proceeds go to more than 25 local non-profit organizations that serve children at risk of dropping out of school, individuals and families living in poverty, veterans in crisis, people affected by mental illness and people experiencing homelessness,” said Emily Reagan, Resource Development Coordinator for the United Way of Denton County.

The theme for Lil’d NYE is Great Gatsby, and for those who don’t want to rent a costume, the theme can be easily met by adding feathers to your outfit, costume jewelry or even a feather boa.

Eats

The thing that can send any night out to a crashing halt is the food. Never fear here – this is one party that will have something to satisfy every taste. With a first course of appetizers such as Barley & Board’s bleu cheese chips, sweet and salty nuts and Charcuterie and cheese skewers, they will warm you up and get you ready for the main course.

I hope you’re ready for the awesomeness that the main course holds. There are racks of ribs and brisket, expertly smoked by Bumbershoot BBQ in Argyle and mac-n-cheese for a side. Now, I have had my fair share of mac-n-cheese. I’ve sampled everything from the Kraft staple to even making my own, and this mac-n-cheese is legit. You may want to ditch your date and just go home with this deliciousness.

There’s also black-eyed peas. Many don’t realize that eating black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day is a tradition. Eating the legumes on New Year’s Day is supposed to signal prosperity for the new year. Whether you believe it or not, help yourself to some of these (it can’t hurt to try, right?)

It wouldn’t be a proper meal without dessert. Save some room, because once you eat just one of these mini-cheesecakes, you’ll be looking for at least three or four more.

Those who are starting on their New Year’s Resolutions to be healthier or prefer vegan or vegetarian fare, there will be some there for you to nosh on, including the chips, sweet potato hummus and the mini-cheesecakes. The Mac-n-Cheese and nuts are also vegetarian, so have all you want! And don’t worry about missing out on your luck – the black-eyed peas will be served in both a pork variety and sans pork, for vegans attending.

Stay the Night

For some, the scariest night of the year to be on the roads is New Year’s Eve. Don’t limit the party this year – go all out with the Best Western Premier hotel package. For just an extra $100, you can book your overnight stay with one of the top hotels in Denton. Even better – the hotel will provide complimentary transportation to and from the event, so no worrying about driving or parking!

“I love not having to worry about driving home since I don’t live in the downtown area,” Micah said.

Then, in the morning, join other party-goers for a complimentary hot breakfast, including a made-to-order omelet station, to get off on the right foot to start 2018.
