Visitors and Dentonites have been enjoying the tearoom experience at The Chestnut Tree for years. Until now, the only vegan item on the menu was the Farmer's Salad, which was good enough to keep us coming back regularly. But now, holy cow! The Chestnut Tree has been making a transition to offering more vegan items, and we are grateful. The tomato basil soup is always vegan. So are the mini muffins that magically appear on your table when you sit down. The breakfast potatoes are made with oil, and so are the sautéed mushrooms.
We met up with some friends for lunch there last week and sampled some of the new additions and old favorites. Newly added items to the menu are the Vegan French Toast, which is amazing, Tofu Scramble, Vegan Wrap, and the substitution of agave tofu for yogurt in the Vanilla Yogurt and Granola dish. In addition, they try to include a vegan weekly special. Last week it was a jackfruit crab cake on salad greens. It was fabulous.
Another great thing about this sweet eatery is that our kids enjoyed their meals very much. We can order a small plate of sides for them and have plenty of choices.
We applaud The Chestnut Tree for their flavorful new vegan menu items, clear vegan labeling on the menu, and commitment to local organic produce. Go check it out! They're open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and located at 107 W. Hickory Street on the square.
