School’s back in session, and the Texas heat is waning. What’s there to do in Denton to coincide with this happy turn of events? Arts, Antiques, and Autos Extravaganza, of course! Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Whether you’re a classic-car enthusiast, an antique collector, or just the artsy-type, you’ll find plenty to pique your interests as you mosey around the Square at this fun-filled festival.
Think you’ve got what it takes to take home the prize for best “Drive-In Movie Car?” Or perhaps you’ve got your mind set on winning the award for best “Family Truckster.” Either way, there will be plenty of unique categories to compete in at this year’s auto show, so dust off your classic, hot rod and custom cars, trucks and motorcycles and polish ‘er up to sparkle real nice in this year’s competition. Hey, if you’ve got a brag-worthy car, now’s the time to show it off and earn some real bragging-rights.
Perhaps it’s the arts that lure you. Whether you’re in the mood to dabble in the Chalk Fest (and win CASH prizes!), or if you simply want to hang back and check out the artwork submitted, you’ll love the creativity lighting up the Square this weekend. You’ll also get to relax and enjoy the historic downtown scenery as you stroll through fine arts and crafts vendor booths on the courthouse lawn. Not enough shopping for ya? Peruse the specialty boutiques, antique, vintage stores, and the art galleries and studios around the Square, where you can find one-of-a-kind pieces. You can also stop by the silent auction inside the courthouse to check out the great deals from many of the downtown restaurants, merchants, and more. The silent auction benefits the Denton Main Street Association, which is the organization that promotes downtown, historic preservation and revitalization.
Are you sitting on a goldmine? You never know until you haul in that heirloom that's been collecting dust in the garage. Antique collectors and newbies will find it helpful to bring in their antique items to the Attic Treasure Information Appraisals at some of the downtown stores (W. Douglas Antiques, County Seat Antiques, and Amyx Fine Jewelry) to discover the value of an heirloom. Appraisals are $5 per item or 3 for $10. Tickets can be purchased at Information Booth or one of the downtown stores (listed above) where the specialists are located.
Your afternoon will be set to the tune of live music by local Denton artists, including singer/songwriters from DentonRadio.com, High School Caesar, and the Guitar George Trio. Let's face it, no Denton event would be complete without some live music! Did we mention this event is FREE? That's right. Now you really don't have any reason not to go. There's a little something for everyone to enjoy, so get your fill of weekend Dentoning at Arts, Antiques, and Autos Extravaganza on the Square September 14th. See ya there!
