The Denton Live Guide to the North Texas Fair & Rodeo

Published on: Wed, Jul 31, 2019

For nine days in August, Denton showcases its country side — and this year will be no different.
The North Texas Fair and Rodeo features nine straight days of cowboy hats and boots, a rodeo every night, concerts featuring top-notch country music, livestock shows and funnel cakes.
Whether youʼre a city slicker or country through-and-through, everyone can get their kicks at this family-friendly festival!

Step One: Get Outfitted

Most proper cowgirls and cowboys already have a ʻfavoriteʼ pair of boots, but if yours are showing their age, or your hat has gone lost, or your Wranglers suddenly are too holey for public viewing, it might be time to update your wear before the fair.
Luckily, Denton has several fine shops prepared to help you with this dilemma. So drop on by and fix up your finery!

Step Two: Scope out the Sked

Every night of the North Texas Fair & Rodeo is chock full of talent, and it follows the same basic schedule. Just check for the performers and make your game plan!
6 pm: Performer(s) on the Bud Light Stage
7:30 pm: Rodeo at the Miller Lite Rodeo Arena
9:30 pm: Headliner performance on the Budweiser Stage
11 pm: Performer(s) on the Bud Light Stage

Step Three: Get Out Your Magic Money

Donʼt want to carry your wallet around? Not a problem! Since 2017, North Texas Fair & Rodeo vendors only accept Magic Money currency, which can be loaded on a card purchased at the fairgrounds, then reloaded at an on-site machine or through a mobile app. (Magic Money is not accepted in the Commercial Events building, where vendors generally accept cards and cash.)
Once you have your Magic Money card locked and loaded, you are ready to go on the carnival rides, share a funnel cake or even take the kiddos through the petting zoo.

Step Four: Have Fun!

All in all, the North Texas Fair & Rodeo is a great excuse to appreciate the final days of summer before school starts, enjoy a cold beverage of your choice, listen to some fabulous music and kick back with family and friends.
So what are you waiting for? Tickets will go on sale (including multi-day passes) on beginning June 15.
